What is the quickest way to lose weight? The easiest way to lose weight is to not eat. This may seem crazy but many people do it.

Fasting and drinking only water can make you lose anywhere between 3 and 7 pounds the first week alone. You can also fast and only drink juice for nourishment.

Unfortunately, it is dangerous to fast in any way. People with health issues such as diabetes, can’t even safely fast for 24 hours. It should only be done under medical supervision and most doctors will tell you not to do it.

But even if your doctor decides it is okay, you will notice that fasting for longer periods of time is not easy. First of all, you are likely to get tired. Anybody who is fasting needs a lot of rest, and most of us do not have the luxury of being able to take a long period of rest and relaxation in our lives.

Then you may have detox symptoms. These can be very strong during a fast because there is nothing for the system to do except detoxify. Before you even lose weight, you might run into symptoms such as headaches, cramps, rashes and even short term fevers that might last up to 24 hours.

These symptoms can even be worse if your diet has been less than satisfactory in the past. We constantly ingest toxins coming from chemicals in our food and the environment. But, when the amount of toxins we take in is higher than the amount we can get rid of, our body stores them inside fat cells. So, when you are using up the fat for energy, the toxins have no choice but being tossed back into the blood stream.

Unfortunately, another thing that can happen is that our muscle mass can also be breaking down to produce energy. Muscles are built from protein, and when you have no protein in the diet the muscles are likely to become very weak.

Some people follow a juice fast hoping that it will be the quickest way to lose weight without having all of these issues. However, many of the difficulties are still likely to arise to a lesser extent. You will probably still have some detox symptoms, and you will not get much protein. Fruit does not contain much protein. There is more in vegetables, but you may lose a lot along with the fiber when you are juicing them.

You should be advised to choose green vegetables over fruit, since they contain more essential minerals and vitamins than fruits. And they are much better for your teeth. Unfortunately, many people don’t think the juice from green vegetables tastes very good. Juicing is also very expensive and you don’t get much juice from one pound of vegetables. Adding fruit can be a tasty option, but it doesn’t do anything to help reduce the cost.

You can draw health benefits from juice fasting, as long as it is carefully planned and done under medical supervision. Most people, however, do better with a sensible diet that allows them to lose weight over time. It may not be the absolute quickest way to lose weight but it will probably work out better.
